ON THE SCREEN
PUTARURU TALKIES “ A Farewell to Arms ” .“ A Farewell to Arms,” with Helen Hayes, Gary Cooper and Adolphe Menjou in the leading roles, will be shown at the Putaruru Town Hall on Saturday. Gary Cooper has the role of Frederick Henry, an American lieutenant in - the Italian Ambulance corps, who had been a typical soldier, rough, devoted to liquor, until the day he met Catherine Barkley, the brave and beautiful nurse, whose role is played by Helen Hayes.
Wednesday’s Programme A double feature programme has been arranged for Wednesday. A bright English comedy, “ Excess Baggage,” concerns Colonel Murgatroyd, who thinks his commanding officer is dead. He puts the body in a trunk, but by mistake the trunk is exchanged for one owned by the Duchess of Dillwater, and is carried into a house supposed to be haunted by a ghost. From thence on things become very involved and lead to lively fooling. Also showing is “ Scarlet River,” featuring Tom Keane and Dorothy Wilson.
