WAIKATO EAST RABBIT BOARD.

ORDINARY MEETING. The ordinary meeting of the Waikato East Rabbit Board was attended at Putaruru on Tuesday by the following members: Messrs. J. S. Allen (chairman), W. J. Baldwin, R. Carruth, J. J. Shine and W. D. L. MacDonald. Also in attendance were Messrs. A. L. Mason (secretary) and E. Lord (inspector). Chemical Supplies. On the motion of Mr. Baldwin it was decided to close with an agency for the supply of carbon bisulphide and to circularise other rabbit boards stating this fact, and asking if they would have any requirements. Sales Tax. The clerk reported that he had wired and written to the Department of Agriculture with reference to the sales tax on strychnine and carbon bisulphide, asking that representations be made on the subject to the Minister. A reply had been received from the department advising that the matter was being taken up with the Customs Department. The chairman suggested the matter be now taken up with the Minister. Mr. Shine remarked that enquiries would have to be made with the Customs Department in order to find out the estimate of sales, so that the effect on the Budget could be arrived at. Mr. MacDonald remarked that the exemption would need to apply only

on sales to rabbit boards. On the motion of Messrs. Shine and Carruth, it was decided to wire to the Minister asking that rabbit boards be exempted from payment of the tax on strychnine and carbon bisulphide. Particulars of Account. Mr. E. Nicklin wrote protesting against the board running him into expense, which he could -not pay, by putting men on to trap rabbits and. without advising him of the fact. He had done a lot of trapping round the boundary and was hard put to it to keep down ragwort. The clerk said there was no obligation to supply particulars as it was a statutory account, but as a matter of courtesy particulars could be given. Mr. Shine remarked that the. writer was not hostile. It was decided, on the motion of Messrs. Allen and Baldwin, to reply that the inspector had not exceeded his powers and also to give particulars of the account. Financial Position. The clerk reported that there was, a credit of £l4O 10s 4d in current account and a fixed deposit, maturing on April 1, of £550. Since last, meeting the following amounts had been received: Rates, £l9 6s 3d; sale of chemicals, £ls 14s lOd; rabbit destruction, £23 9s lOd.
