MATAMATA COUNTY COUNCIL.
FEBRUARY MEETING. The February meeting of the Matamata County Council, which was held at Tirau on Friday, was attended by the following members: Crs. J. W. Anderson (chairman, Tirau), J. Bruce (Karapiro), J. Pohlen (Matamata), K. S. Cox (Tokoroa,), E. D. White (Okoroire), P. Dee (Te Poi), E. Nickle (Maungatautari), A. T. Morriss (Putaruru). Also in attendance were Messrs. M. E. Fitzgerald (engineer) and J. A. Beck (clerk). Orepunga Road.
The Public Works Department, Hamilton, wrote advising that the provision of funds for the Orepunga road had again been submitted to the Minister of Public Works, who had advised that £2 for £1 subsidy was all that the Government was prepared to find. However, the Government was not at present in a position to assist with Government funds. —Received. Councillor Resigns. Mr. J. Moir, councillor for the Peria riding, forwarded his resignation from the council. On the motion of the chairman, the resignation was accepted and it was decided to thank Cr. Moir for his services. Rate Settlement. A letter was received from A. R. and M. E. Dunning stating that they had sold their property, but in order to complete the sale they had to raise a certain amount of money. In view of this they asked the council to assist them by meeting them with regard to the outstanding rates, otherwise they would have to walk off. The chairman said that if they vralked off the property would revert to the Crown, and the council would lose the whole of the £7O outstand-
The works committee recommended that £4O cash be accepted in settlement, and the council agreed to this suggestion.
