FIRE AT YNCYCA BAY.

RESIDENCE AND CONTENTS DESTROYED.

A fire occurred afe Yncyoa Bay about midnight on Saturday which resulted in the total destruction of Lieutenant A. W. Nisbat’s residence and contents. The house was unoccupied at the time, Mr Niebet being at present in England on active service, and Mrs Nisbet is on a visit to the Wairarapa. A man named Haynes, who is acting as caretaker on the farm during the absence of Mr Nisbet, lives in a whare about three or four hundred yards from the house, and was awakened just before midnight by the barking of dogs. Looking out he saw a powerful glare in the direction of the house, but by the time he arrived on the scene the whole building, except one corner, was a mass of flames. Haynes was only able to save a few acticles of clothing and several tools from the wash-house.

During the day neighbouring settlers were on the property assisting in the shifting of sheep. Haynes was in the house at about 5 p.m. having occasion to use the telephone. There was no sign of fire in or near the house at that hour, and the origin is a complete mystery. The insurances are at present unknown, but it is understood that both house and furniture are partly covered.

Mr and Mrs Nisbet, however, are heavy losses, the former having lost a valuable lot of tools, also parts of his launch engine, which were in the adjoining worbshop.-
