EDUCATION BOARD.

At the Board’s meeting on Monday tbs following business of interest to this district was dealt with : Miss M. Kelleher appliedfor the position of assistant teacher at the Carluke school. Mias O. O. Jones also applied for this position. Inspector Straohan reported that Miss Jones was ineligible, and. that Miss Kelleher, although having had a number of years’ experience at Te Awaite, nad not a certificate. It was decided to forward Miss Kelleher’s application to the Carluke Committee. Mr J, W. Taylor wrote informing the Board that Mr L. Watson bad been appointed teaoher at the Ferndale school. Miss Gallop was appointed teacher at the Tira Ora school. Mr G. Gibson informed the Board that he was unable to proceed with his contract for the erection of a new school at Onahuku, owing to being unable to procure dressed timber in the Sounds. He pointed out that the only way to get suitable timber was to take it from Blenheim, and this would cost an extra £iz ros, and he could not do the work unless the Board was prepared to meet him in the direction of the extra cost. It was decided to relieve Mr Gibson of his contract, and that Mr Straohan repbrt on this matter when he next visits the district. THE CARLUKE SCHOOL.’ Mr Soott reported that he had inspected the pipes in the water-supply scheme, and found that some of them leaked. These he had bad repaired, and there was now a sufficient supply of water. The report was received. A further report was received from Mr' Soott to the effect that an attempt, had been, made to burn the school on 21st March.’ The secreiary stated that the sergeant of ■i lice had promised to investigate this 1 .Iter personally. 1 1 was decided to defer discussion on this u. 1 ur untill Sergeant Hanson bad reported upon it THE OKARAMIO SCHOOL. Mr W. S. Watson wrote offering to raise the Okaramio school building by day labour. Mr Ferguson moved that Mr J. Brown be asked to report on this school.
