WAIROA GOLF CLUB
SEASON’S PROSPECTS OPE XING ON APRIL 1 (Special to tlie Herald.) WAIROA, this day. The committee of the Wairoa Golf Club ha? decided that the official opening of the 1939 season will be held on April 1. It is expected that the links will be in perfect condition by that date owing to the excellent work carried out by the greeiikeeper during the summer months. The fairways and greens have been kept continually cut and the course generally has been well cleared. Last year the annual open tournament with an outstanding success, a record number of entries being received from outside players, and there is no doubt that this event is keenly looked forward to each season. This provides ample evidence of the club’s justification for carrying out the many improvements it has been able to bring about. Prospects for the coming season are particularly bright as a number of new members have advised their intention of joining up, which it is hoped will more than offset the loss of players who have left the district. Intending members, who have not already done so, arc asked to advise the secretary, Mr. J. J. Millar, at an early date so that their nominations may be passed by the committee before the opening day. Last year, despite the set-back early in the season on account of the Aprr floods, visiting golfers were amazed at the excellent condition of the link so that the grounds committee has a hard reputation to maintain. However, members may rest assured that everything possible is being done to make play during tire coming season more enjoyable than ever. A special general meeting will be held in Mr. ,T. J. Millar’s office on March 20, to discuss the fixing of subscriptions for tire coming year.
