Statements that he had been unemployed since July last and had been unable to find work despite his many visits to the employment oflice were made to-day before Mr. E. L. Walton, S.M.. in the Magistrate's Court by Charles Edward Parsons, a single man, who appeared on a judgment summons to give reasons for his inability to pay McKeague's, Limited, £7 19s 7d in respect of an account [or groceries. An order for immediate payment was issued, in default eight days' imprisonment, the warrant to be suspended on payment of 5s a week off the account. Cross-examin-ed by Mr. D. E. Chrisp, the defendant said he would not take work on a farm because the wages, .CI 15s a week and keep, were too low for the length of hours worked. Previously lie had been employed by the PublicWorks Department on the railway construction work. Other orders in undefended cases were made as follows:—Potties, Limited v. George Shaskey, £5 10s (id, in default five days; Reginald John McKay v. Frederick William Outen, £3 (is lOd, in default three days; Shalfoon Brothers v. Arthur Clarke, £4 lis iOd, in default four days; Vacuum Oil Proprietary, Limited v. R. Johnson, £5 lis .Id, in default five days.
