SURPLUS IN VICTORIA
BUDGET FOR THE YEAR RELIEF TAX REDUCED RAILWAY CONCESSIONS (F.lec. Tel. Copyright—United Press Assn.) (Reed. Aug. 4, 9 a.m.) . MELBOURNE, Aug. 3. The Victorian State Budget presented by the Premier, Mr. A. A. Dunstan, to-day, shows a surplus for the year of £30,000 and forecasts a surplus for the 1938-39 period of £12,000. The only tax reduction is 6 per ceat on the unemployment relief tax. The unemployment tax reduction in the last Budget was 20 per cent. For the 1937-38 'period this tax yielded £1,934,000. An important concession is a reduction of 20 per cent in the periodical railway suburban tickets on distances from eight to 20 miles from the city.
