DEATHBED BEQUEST

LATE LORD RUTHERFORD

.000 FOR OLD COLLEGE

(Per Press Association.) NELSON, this day

A bequest of £IOO was made to Nelson College by the late Lord Rutherford, Nelson, whose ashes were laid to rest in Westminster Abbey alongside those of Newton. Faraday, Kelvin, Darwin, and Huxley. In a letter received by the council of governors, through her solicitors, Lady Rutherford, said: 'Within an hour or so of his death, my dear husband said to me in a very tired voice: •I want to leave £IOO to Nelson College You can see to it,' and then loudly, 'Remember, £IOO to Nelson College.'

"He hardly spoke alter that. 1 am sure his old college will be touched to hear that even on his deathbed he remembered it. It gives me great pleasure to carry out his bequest which, I know, lie had intended to- put in his will."

The council of governors expressed its deepest appreciation of the gift. The Public Trustee informed the council of governors that a legacy of £SOO from the estate of the late Dr. Renwick was now at the disposal of the council for the foundation, of a Renwick Scholarship, following on the recent death of his wife.
