SPEED IN BOXING RING
POINTS GO TO CLARK DEFEAT OF YOUNG- GILDO WELTER BOUT STOPPED (Per Pjrtisi ABsociutinu.l AUCKLAND, this day. A return professional light-weight boxing contest staged between Young Gildo, of Honolulu, and Snowy Clark. of Western Australia, was won by the latter on points at the end of 12 three-minute rounds. The bout was not so spectacular as that which took place in Auckland four weeks earlier. Clark's speed with his straight left, combined with splendid footwork nnd clever evasion of right and left swings, enabled him to pile up a big margin of points. Gildo's only hope over the later rounds was to win by a knockout, but Clark was too alert to leave the' Filipino such an opening. A preliminary professional contest was to have taken place between two welterweights, Don Johnson, of Auckland, and Bob Morrighan, of Christchurch. The former, however, had contracted measles and Fred Parsons, of Auckland, substituted for him. Having his first professional contest Parsons lacked the experience of the visitor. Parsons was completely worn out in the seventh round and when he was knocked down the referee immediately intervened.
