MAORI MOTORIST FINED
"The headlights of the car driven by the defendant were distinctly out of adjustment," said the Borough Council's traffic inspector, Mr. T. G. Nowell, this morning when prosecuting Wiremu Tamihana before Mr. E. L. Walton, S.M., in the Magistrate's Court on a charge of operating a motor vehicle with glaring headlights after the hours of darkness. The defendant was fined 10s and costs 10s and on a further charge of having no warrant of fitness was fined a similar sum.
The inspector said the defendant was driving down Gladstone road and the beam of his lights was shining on the cups of the telegraph poles. Several cars had to slow down in order to pass the oncoming vehicle. The vehicle was taken to a garage and the lights were found to be set at the required distance when the car was empty, but with a full load the beam was raised 2£in.
