MINISTER IN SECLUSION
ATTENDANCE OF EXPERT
BUILDING UP LEGISLATION
(Special to the Herald.) WELLINGTON, this day
In the course of the few days he has spent at Waikaremoana this week, the Minister of Finance, the Hon. W. Nash, doubtless has taken the opportunity provided by the seclusion of the lake resort to study a number of phases of the legislation now being framed for presentation to Parliament during the forthcoming session.
The Minister Is understood to have the assistance of Mr. G. H. Maddix, an actuarial expert loaned by the British Government to the New Zealand legislature, who has been giving valuable aid in connection with the national superannuation and health insurance schemes.
It Is fairly obvious that these two important authorities, upon whose opinions the Cabinet places a great deal of weight, will put in a reflective week-end at Waikaremoana.
Cabinet Meeting on Wednesday
This opportunity must be welcomed by Mr. Nash, who is usually immersed in a great variety of problems when he is in Wellington. It is expected that at a Cabinet meeting called for next Wednesday, the coming legislation on national health service and superannuation will be considered.
Mr. Nash is taking part in a radio broadcast discussion on dairy prices at Hamilton on Monday, when the case for compensated prices will be argued by Mr. Furniss, who has been prominent in the controversy, while the Minister will urge the superiority of the Government’s system. After a brief visit to Auckland, the Minister of Finance proposes to utilise the air service to reach Wellington in time for Wednesday’s gathering of the Cabinet.
