In consequence of the Harbour Board’s mating being held at Waikokopu on February 8, the Wairoa Hospital Board’s meeting usually held on the same afterhoon will be held now a week later, on February 15. ■The children’s sports were held on the basketball ground, Marine parade on Wednesday night in a fading light. There was a fair attendance, and the Municipal Band, under the conductor, Mr. K. G. L. Smith, rendered an acceptable musical programme. Results: —Girls under 8. —I. Carrian, 1; R. Helean, 2. Boys under 10. —R. Nicholas, 1; E. G. Carrian, 2. Girls under 10. —I. Martin, 1; E. Martin, 2. Boys’ wheelbarrow race.—Baker and Galbraith, 1; Mayo and Svensen, 2. Boys’ slow cycle race.—Hood, 1; Baker, 2. Boys, 12 and over. —Cox, 1; Nicholas, 2. Girls, 12 and under.— J. Hura,' X; Z. Redshaw, 2. Threelegged race. —Bennett and Highet, 1; Hannam and McErlich, 2. Some events were cut out' for want of entries and others owing to the failing light. The side-shows were again largely patronised, and the wind-up function, the Show cabaret at Osiers Hall, drew a large crowd. Mr. and Mrs. Don Wilson have left for Kaikohe.—Mrs. Mcars (nee Miss Grace Mayo) is visiting Wairoa. “That the stock embargo should not be lifted will be the subject of a debate to be held between two teams of the Wairoa Young Farmers’ Club on Wednesday, February 9. The teams to compete are as follows: —Affirmative: E. S. Patterson, R. J. Powdrell and P. Jessep. Negative: W. G. Brownlie, B. Parkinson and J. N. Brownlie, The judge will be Mr. H. R. Bannister. The final for the Powdrell Trophy for the best prepared speech on “The Life of any Man who has Benefited the Farming Community” also will be held, the finalists bein H. M. B. deLautour, W. G. Brownlie, P. Richmond, C. O. Mackay and E. S. Pattison.
