TE KARAKA LIBRARY

MEETING OF SUBSCRIBERS (Herald Correspondent.) The annual meeting of subscribers to the Te Karaka Public Library was held on Monday evening. The chairman, Mr. B. McCauley, in commenting on the very satisfactory attendance, said it was gratifying t 6 see the increased interest being shown by the public. The balance sheet and annual report submitted by the secretary, Mr. Maxwell Bell, showed a strong financial position. The report stated that recent additions to the reference books in the library were an Encyclopaedia Brittanica, presented by the Turanganui Library Committee, and a University Atlas and an Oxford Dictionary bought with money donated by the Waikohu County Council. The book issue for the past year showed a wonderful increase over previous years, 2500 books being issued, which was 700 more than in 1936. Additional books numbering 115 had been placed on the shelves. The service to patrons outside Te Karaka was well supported, and it Was decided to continue the service during 1938. It was resolved that all available funds should be devoted to the purchase of new books.
