ALBANY ASSAULT CASE

ATTACK ON WOMAN ACCUSED TO STAND TRIAL (lVr Truss Association.) AUCKLAND, last night The story of an alleged assault near Albany on the night of January 14 was told at the Police Court to-day when Alfred George Clegg, 4G, was charged with assaulting a woman and, further, with assaulting her with intent to commit rape. At the conclusion of the evidence, Clegg, who pleaded not guilty, was committed for trial. “I would ask that the bail be very substantial. This is a very serious ease.” said Detective-Sergeant McHugh, when counsel asked for bail. The accused was granted bail in one surety of £3OO, and on his own recognisance of £3OO, on condition that he reported to the police daily.
