THANKS TO MAGISTRATE
MINISTER OF TRANSPORT ADVICE OF DEFECT (Per Press Association.) CHRISTCHURCH, last night. "The magistrate has hit on an important question, and the anomaly will be removed immediately by amending the regulation," said the Minister of Transport, the Hon. R. Semple, in referring to the weakness in the new traffic regulations recently indicated by Mr. C. R. Orr-Walker, S.M., during the hearing of a case at the Magistrate's Court at Auckland. According to the magistrate, although the regulation made it incumbent on the driver of a vehicle to carry a warrant of fitness, it did not require him to produce the warrant on demand by a duly constituted authority. "1 am personally grateful to the magistrate for pointing out this weakness," Mr. Semple added. "It is only when new regulations come under the acid test in court that weaknesses are found, and a magistrate who points these out is rendering a good service to the country."
