SNOW CARNIVAL
KOSCIUSKO CONTESTS N.Z. GIRL PROMINENT SYDNEY, Sept. C. A gay party of New Zealand skiers and friends arrived to-day en route for Mount Kosciusko for the snow carnival which will begin on Wednesday. The men created a diversion on the wharf by wearing Tyrol hats bedecked with Orpington feathers. They will arrive at Charlotte Pass to-mor-row. The Press Association correspondent at Mount Kosciusko reports that the inter-State slalom was run to-day on good snow, under a blazing sun, on a course set on Trapyard Creek by the American, Durrance. New South Wales defeated Victoria in both the men's and women's slaloms on unofficial times. Victoria was handicapped by the absence of Mitchell, who was compelled to return to Melbourne for the Victorian elections. The New Zealander, Miss Diana Allen, had the best total times in the women's event, the running of which was non-competitive. The race committee decided to combine the Australian championship with the triangular international match, starting, on Friday, in order to permit the New Zealand team to compete.
