WAINUI SURF CLUB
PROGRESS OF APPEAL ERECTION OF TOWER The appeal for funds for the new Wainui Surf Life Saving Club has met with a good response from the residents of Gisborne, and a credit of over £(is now stands in the banking account. Up to this stage the expenditure of £5 on the look-out tower has been the major item. Negotiations are in progress with one of the Sydney clubs for the purchase of a second-hand surf boat and if a satisfactory answer is received from the man looking at the craft on the club’s behalf £75 will be required to complete the deal. The boat under consideration is only two years old and in that time has gained a reputation on the Australian beaches. A great deal of interest was displayed during the week-end by the motorists on the Coast highway at the work of the members in erecting the tower in Lysnar Park, Wainui Beach. The task was completed and will serve as a landmark on the bench. The following acknowledgements are made of donations:—
