Mr. J. W. Leslie, son of Mrs. P. R. D. Leslie, Sheehan street, is paying a brief visit to Gisborne while en route to Auckland.

Mr. D. W. Coleman, M.P., was confined to his home to-day by a heavy cold. He hopes to resume his Mayoral duties to-morrow or Wednesday, at the latest.

Mr. W. Oakden, secretary cf the Gisborne Returned Soldiers’ Association, who recently was granted fuilough on account of sickness, has suffered a return of illness. Mr. E. L. Walton, S.M.. left Gisborne during the week-end for the monthly court circuit in the Bay of Plenty, sitting at Opotiki to-day, and at Whakatane, Tauranga, and Te Puke on successive days.

Passengers by East Coast Airways planes between Gisborne and Napier over the week-end included Mesdames N. Borton, J. McDowall and J. Green; Miss E. Crawshaw; Messrs. N. Norton, A. McKenzie, W. Nolan, J. R. Penlington, J. McDowall, E. Fitzgerald, R. Mclvor, T. Caney, J. Eddy, P. Philpps, Oates and Campbell.

Mr. Ken Cooper, chairman of the Gisborne Young Farmers' Club, has arranged to accompany Mr. E. M. Bates, the Poverty Bay district secretary, to Wellington at the end of the week to' attend a meeting of the Dominion council of the New Zealand Federation of Young Farmers’ Clubs. Tiie meeting will be held on Friday, and Messrs. Bates and Cooper expect to leave Gisborne on Wednesday. Cable advice has been received from London that Mr. Geoffrey G. Muir, son of Mr. and Mrs. C. W. Muir, Gisborne, has received an appointment on the staff of the London Times. Prior to leaving New Zealand Mr. Muir was a member of the journalistic staff of the Auckland Herald, and for the past six months has been official press representative with the New Zealand delegation in England.
