FAREWELL PARTY (Herald Correspondent.) Mrs. A. M. Newton and Mrs. S. 11. G. Richmond were joint hostesses at a delightful afternoon given at the latter’s residence on Thursday in honour of Mrs. A. E. Knight, -who is leaving the Puha district to reside at Malta raka. The drawing-room was artistically decorated with bowls of Iceland poppies and vases of marigolds, and a bright log lire gave a cheery welcome to the guests.
After a dainty afternoon tea had been served, the Rev. J. D. Hodgseii, in asking Mrs. Knight to accept a fireside stool and work-basket combined, from her friends present, spoke of the splendid work she had done for the Anglican Church in the district. Mrs. Knight feelingly expressed her thanks.
Mrs. Newton received her guests wearing a nigger brown costume, and Mrs. Richmond was attired in a saxcbiuc ensemble. The guest ol honour was froeked in navy blue.
Those present were the Rev. and Mrs. J. D. Hodgsen; Mesdames S. G. Richmond, A. M. Newton, A. h. Knight, W. T. Coates, J. Peach, J. Kitnoy, Te Kani Te Ua, G. Bayley, A. Howard, A. L. F. Brown, G. Askew, and R. H. Brown: Misses L. Fletcher. M. Newton and N. Coates.
A jolly evening was spent al the euchre party and dance held in the Puha Hal) on Tuesday evening. The card tournament was won by Mrs. V. Fisher and Mr. W. White. Dancing was much enjoyed to music played by Mr. W. Lonaiie, and at the conclusion of the card tournament coffee and sandwiches were served by the committee.
