THE WEATHER To-day’s North Island Report Blue skies were reported this morning at Napier, Tauranga, and Auckland, but overcast conditions prevailed elsewhere in the North Island. Light to moderate north-westerly breezes were general. The barometer had risen slightly during the ' week-end. Temperatures at 9 o’clock were: Auckland 49 degrees. Tauranga 46. Opotiki 44. East Cape 51. Gisborne 47. Napier 50, and Wellington 52. Rough seas were reported at Wellington and Castlepoint; elsewhere moderate or smooth. Last Night's Forecast Though pressure is high over most of Australia and thence across the north Tasman Sea and the North Island, a slight disturbance extends from the New South Wales coast towards southern New Zealand, and a fresh depression is approaching Tasmania. The forecast is for winds, between north and west, moderate to strong generally, and of gale force at times in Cook and Foveaux Straits. Seas in New Zealand waters will be rather rough to rough at times about Cook and Foveaux Straits, moderate elsewhere on the west coast and slight to moderate on the east coast, in the eastern Tasman Sea there will be north-west to westerly winds prevailing, light to moderate in the northern portion with slight to moderate seas, moderate to strong in the southern portion with rather rough seas. The weather will be changeable in districts with a westerly aspect, with occasional rain, fair for the most part in eastern districts, but Showers extending at limes to scattered places, more especially south nf Castlepoint. Temperature? will be mild. Midday Forecast General inference.—-Though pressure is still high to the north, a disturbance is approaching across die Tasman Sea.
