WAIROA SAVAGE CLUB
SEASON'S SECOND KORERO VARTED PROGRAMME (Herald Correspondent.) The second korero of the Wairoa Savage Club for the 1937 season was held in Osier's Hall, Wairoa, on Wednesday. The Rangitira, Savage 11. L. Ilarker was installed by the tribal orator, Savage R. Home, in an appropriate manner. There were about 40 Savages present, and in addition numerous visitors, including Savage Carr, of the Gisborne club. A varied programme was tendered, including the following items:—Cornet solo, Savage R. Herbert; song, Savage Chrisp; pianoforte selection, Savage A. E. Perry, and a duet with Mr. A. Perry; trio, selection from "Chu Chin Chow." by Savages Chrisp, Jardine, and R. McDonald.
Community singing was entered into with great gusto, one side of the hall being pitted against the other, the official declaration being a dead heat.
The orchestra rendered three items, and an encore, the final item, being announced as "an Egyptian, novelty," and proved to be full of desert sunsets, eastern rhythm and seductive dances. The vicar of St. Paul's Church. Savage C. E. Hyde, gave an interesting talk on "social work in England." The korero was very successuful, and, in view of its atmosphere of joviality it augurs well for the rest of the season. The next korero will be held on July 28.
