MATAWAI NEWS

(Herald Correspondent.) Mrs. C. W. E. Korte returned home on Saturday after a prolonged visit to Gisborne.—Mr. and Mrs. J. Townsend and Mr. C. Gatenby, Taranaki, arrived in Matawai' this week on a holiday visit to Mrs. Korte.—Mr. and Mrs. H. Bulst, Matawai, are visiting Te Puia and Tokomaru Bay. Mrs. Bulst and her infant son are the guests of Mrs. C. Squires.—Messrs. S. J. Sinton and G. F. Korte are on holiday in Palmerston North, where they are attending the farmers' camp.

Wednesday was one of the coldest days experienced in Matawai this winter. Snow covered the ranges well down, and a cold southerly set in after a severe frost. Another hard frost was recorded yesterday morning, but the day proved beautifully sunny, although in the shady places the frost had not thawed.
