PUBLIC WORKS SOUGHT

WELLINGTON CONFERENCE APPEAL BY MINISTER (Per Press Association.) WELLINGTON, this day. The acting-Minister of Labour, the Hon. P. C. Webb, to-day convened a conference of local bodies in Wellington city and district to discuss the absorption of 500 men for four months at full-time employment. On behalf of the Government, the Minister promised to subsidise the. men’s wages up to £4 a week. He asked the local bodies to co-operate in finding work of national and local importance. This they promised to do, and they are to submit a schedule of work for the Minister’s approval.
