WAIKOHU BRIDGE DECKING
ANOTHER MONTH’S WORK
MOTORISTS CONSIDERED
The redecking of the Waikohu bridge will take a further month to complete, according to the report today of the resident A.A. patrol, Air. D. AL McGregor. Tho decking has been run right across Hie structure, but there is no doubt that the planks will have to be slid back at times to permit of work being carried out on the supports. There are five longitudinal beams in the structure and that; will permit the traffic of vehicles without risk, because when one of the beams is exposed for the workmen there will still lie four supports to bear the weight of vehicles.
Complimentary remarks have been passed by motorists regarding the efficiency of; the gangers and they have not been put to any undue inconvenience on account of the work in progress. The men carrying out the work have shown every consideration for lhe traveller. In eqiinoetion with the double crossing on the Pulia side of the bridge, it. is understood that preliminary work will be carried out within the next week or two with the idea of the el in) unit ion of the road crossings. Motorists will remember that the association has been advocating this move and will bo pleased to learn of its progress. The preliminary work will include the removal to a new position of the Railway Department’s telephone lines to assist the men of the Public Works Department in the course of their alterations.
