The /Vast is headed by Anna Lee, Wallace Ford, .John Mills, Grace Bradley, and Frank Collier, and the film was produced with the assistance of the British War Office. “Can This Be Dixie!" begins on Friday. MAJESTIC THEATRE “GOD’S COUNTRY AND THE' WOMAN”: TECIINICOLOUR FILM How life in a. lumber camp and a girl of the backwoods make a man of Steve R,assetfc, formerly the “waster” ol the family, is the story in ‘‘God’s Country and the Woman,’ (he Majestic Theatre’s present Teeiinicolour film. Steve is taken by George Brent, wlm capably fills the part of the Paris man of fashion. He is recalled by an aujry elder brother, senior partner in the Russel t Timber Company, who lakes him by force to the lumber camp. Soon after arriving he goes off in an aeroplane, but lis forced down near the Barton lumber camp, which lias a feud with the Russel t company over a light of way. There is no way out,. as all approaches are picketed by Russell men, who do not know Steve; so lie is set to work in the. timber on pain of starvation, by the beautiful red haired Jo Barton (Beverley Roberts), who has taken charge of the camp since her fathers death, and who Steve’s presumption lias antagonised from the start. Under an assumed name he makes himself indispensable in the camp and in the end turns the losing fight against the Russetl. company in her favour hv dynamiting a huge jam of logs under (ire. The river and forest scenes in Teeiinicolour and the picturesque life in a modern timber camp, working at high pressure give the romance which runs through the film a. delightful setting. Organ music by .Jesse Crawford is a feature of the supporting programme. REGENT THEATRE ELEANOR POWELL IN “BORN TO DANCE”: EXTENDED SEASON “Born to Dance.” with Eleanor Dowell, “Queen of Taps," in the stellar role, continues al the Regent Theatre mild Thursday. Two favourites not seen in the previous; musical are featured in “Born to 'Dunce” in the persons of the jaunty .lames Stewart, who plays -Miss Rowell's leading man, and lovely Virginia Bruce, making her first appearance since her success in “The Great Ziegfehl.” Familiar faces from “Broadway Melody” who sing and dance their way through “Born to Dance” include Una Merkel and Sid Silvers, now recognised us one of the screen’s most hilarious comedy teams, Frances Langford of radio fame, and the long-legged Buddy F.bsen. CORONATION BALL FRIDAY NIGHT The. Victoria League's Coronation Ball, which was postponed at Coronation time, will lie held in the City Hall next Friday. It promises to he a very attractive function, and should prove to he the outstanding hall of the season. The committee lias been working hard to ensure its. success and lias made arrangements for tin excellent supper and a firstclass orchestra.
