CRASH ON CROSSING
CAR STRIKES ENGINE ESCAPE OF MOTORIST (Special to .the Herald.) AUCKLAND, this day. Slight injuries to his face were suffered yesterday afternoon by Mr. I*. Hislop, of .Salisbury road, Alt. Albert, when a motor car lie was driving collided with a north-bound suburban train at a level crossing in St. Jude's street, Avondale. Mr. Hislop, who is a traveller employed by the Auckland Gas Company, was driving up the steep grade of St. Jude’s street in the direction of the city shortly before .7 o’clock when the car struck the locomotive almost head on. The force of the impact swung the ear round at right angles to the road, but it was not capsized. The front part of the car was considerably damaged. The left mudguard and radiator were badly dented. The eugine bonnet was torn off and the windscreen was smashed. Air. Hislop’s injuries consisted of facial abrasions and cuts on his forehead. After receiving attention from Dr. W. G. Carew, he was able to go home.
