“REALLY A BOG”

BACK COUNTRY ROAD MINISTER’S INSPECTION (Special to the Herald.) TIKITIKI, this day. Although the Minister of Public Works, tlie Hon. R. Semple, had intimated that he did not intend to waste time inspecting minor roads, he made an exception yesterday in the case of the Te Hue road, Tikitiki, yielding to an appeal by settlers to see the conditions with which tliev had to contend.

Mr. Semple was accompanied by Mrs. Semple, Mr. A. G. Hultquist, M.P. for the district, Mr. J. Wood, engineer-iu-chief of the Public Works Department, Mr. O. G. Thornton, district engineer, Mr. I). W- W. Williams, chairman of the Waiapu County Council, Mr. A. K. Gilmour, county engineer, and several members of the council.

The party was met on the road by local settlers, comprising Air. and Mrs. J. Sharland, Mr. and Airs. E. W. Hobcroft, and Mr. and Airs. T. Bush, and was entertained at morning tea on the roadside. The difficulties of the settlers were discussed informally, the Alinister stating that he was impressed with the need for improvements to the road, which, he said, was really only a bog.
