STATE HOUSE RENTALS
TOO HIGH FOR WORKERS OPINIONS OF AGENTS NEED FOR £G WAGE (Special to tho Herald.) AUCKLAND, this day. Although Auckland estate agents consider there is very little difference between the average rents likely to be charged for the now Government houses and those offered ami paid tor private homes of a similar nature at present, they agree that the figures announced yesterday by the actingPrime Minister, the lion. P. Fraser, are bevond the capacity of the average working man. <<l thought that the Government had set out. to build homes for the small wage-earner, but these rents do not seem to indicate it,” said one leading estate agent. ‘‘lt is difficult to imagine anybody earning under £6 weekly who could rent one of these houses.” Sirnilar ‘ views were expressed by other estate agents. "“The Government houses are sure to be rushed at these rents, but the tenants are likely to be small business men, higher wage-earners, and office workers,” one agent said.
