WOOL MARKET

CONFIDENCE EXPRESSED

BRITISH TRADE IMPROVES

Confidence in the wool market was expressed by several British delegates to tiio Congress of Chambers of Commerce of the British Empire who arrived at Auckland in the Aorangi. Mr. Bernard Sudgen, a Yorkshire manufacturer of woollens and cottons, said that the woollen industry was improving, there being better spending power not only in England, but. m such countries as Canada, Woollen manufacturers were definitely expecting trade to get belter and not worse. Continental trading was still difficult, but Germany was b'uving woollen fops from Bradford, which "was getting paid for what, it supplied. "We must export to other countries," added Mr. Sngilen. 'Wo can't stand alone." Mr. S. Broadhead, a past-president of the British Wool Federation, said that it was the general opinion in tho woollen trade that there would be no serious variations from last season's wool prices. Generally speaking, there had been an improvement in tho trade, bellied by better buying from Canada and Scandinavia. He. had not had time to consider the effect of tho devaluation of the French franc, hut naturally a country gained a trading advantago by devaluation. Still, if Franco improved her economic situation the position generally -was assisted.
