Tho Central Criminal Court, known as the Old Bailey, is now in the hands of electricians. They are; putting in an entirely new lighting insinuation, including about 2000 new and much more powerful lamps, while tho judges and stall' are on holiday. It is" hoped that by the time the four courts reopen on. September 8, most of The scheme, costing £12,500, will have been completed. .Every court room, and corridor will then be as brilliantly lit as the most modern building in London. Included in the scheme are: —

Tito work is being done following a report, by the city engineer that the present system which is that installed when- the building was opened nearly 30 years ago, is antiquated, worn out and dangerous. The cost, will not be borne by the rates, but by the fund known a.s the city's cash.
