RED ENSIGN IN PACIFIC
ANXIETY OP ROTHERMERE NEED FOR ASSISTANCE £4,000,000 LOAN PLAN (Elec. Tel. Copyright—United Press Assn.) LONDON, Sept. 28. The Daily Mail says that Lord Rothermere, who. is visiting Honolulu, has forwarded a cablegram emphasising his anxiety regarding the future of British shipping in the Pacific, in view of the fact that the United States, Germany, Italy and Japan are subsidising fleets. - He supports the provision of a loan which would cause no more loss to Britain than financially assisting in the building of the Mauretania and the Queen Alary, as the ships would pay interest and return the capital within 20 years. I The Daily Alail, in a leading article', recalls- the unanswered appeal made last year by Air. A. Shaw, the president of the Chamber of Shipping of the United Kingdom, and says: “There has been talk galore, but nothing has been done-.” The journal insists that the Government must shake off its lethargy and brush aside obstructionists.
