THE HAWKE'S BAY TRIP j COMMENT ON PLAYERS The following connnenl is jnade by "Goalie" in the Hawke's lkiv Tribune on the games played by the Poverty Hay and Hawke's Hay men's representative team in Hastings last Saturday:--After being two goals down in the senior game with half the second spell gone, Hawke's Hay seniors came with a rattle in the last quarter to snatch victory by five goals to four. Watfie -McKay came to light- with the hat-trick, the final goal being scored within one minute of the end of the game. Poverty Ray found the bumpy ground difficult to negotiate, but when they settled down they severely tested the Hawke's 13ay defence.

Joe MeNab, the erstwhile Hastings and Hawke's Bay representative, played a. line dashing game on the wing for l lie visitors, being responsible fur at least two of the four goals scored. Slichbnry, Jones and Prentice were a hard-working trio of forwards for (lie visitors, Jones exhibiting perfect stick work and ball control.

Odums on the right flank was not impressive in the first spell, but came into the limelight in the second spell, when he received better support from File, who was playing behind him. Douglas played a brilliant game at left half. He was always a source of annoyance to the home vanguard. Gavin and File were patchy, though both put in some solid work'in the second spell. Slacey, at left back, was like a rock on defence, his powerful elearing hits getting''his team out of trouble on numerous occasions. Le Bas was weak at the commencement, but gave Stacey plenty of assistance when lie settled down. Chadwick, in goal, gave a great account of himself, stopping and elearing shot after shot in a very cool manner. With a weaker man in the position, Hawke's Bay would have won easily.

The result of the junior match was rather a surprise, as it was confidently expected that the visitors would win owing to the fact that the home tram had not had a game together. Hills, Thompson, Watts and Halbert were the pick of the visiting players.
