RESEARCH IN BRITAIN MEAT, FRUIT AND FISH (British Official Wireless.) Reed. 9.30 a.m. RUGBY, Sept. 24. A report of the Food Investigation Board gives a description of many ways in which research is aiding producers and distributors in connection with the quality, storage and handling of meat, truit anj. fishThe eold storage of herring and the gas storage of home-grown pears are two problems to which much study was devoted last year with marked success, while other investigations have shown that the process of ripening in bananas can- be initiated by passing ethylene gas over the green fruit. The hoard is establishing a laboratory at Smithfleld on the lines of the corresponding 10-year-old laboratory at Oovenfc Garden.
