TRADE PACTS CRITICISED
ROOSEVELT REGIME REPUBLICAN OPINIONS MINNEAPOLIS, Sept. 24. The Republican nominee for the Presidency, Mr. Alfred M. Landon, today chose this agricultural centre near the Canadian border to deliver his major address on 'the tariff question, which hinged around a vigorous condemnation of Mr. Roosevelt's reciprocal trade treaty policy. Mr. Landon said that agreements negotiated with eight countries had increased the imports of agricultural products by 84 per cent, and the exports by only 26 per cent, and that a great number of producers were distressed by- the imports of dairy produce and live stock from Canada.
Mr. Landon did not definitely promise to repeal the Reciprocal Trade Act, hut outlined a policy of limiting tariff trading to non-competitive products. He further indicated a change in the method of negotiating tariff matters, giving more power to Congress and barring the present practice of effecting treaties by executive order.
