MATAWHERO STOCK SALE STORE SHEEP ADVANCE At the weekly stock sale conducted by the Poverty Bay Stockbrokers’ Association at the Matawhero saleyards to-day, values for store sheep were on the upgrade, wether hoggets advancing by 2s to 2s 6d. In the fat sheep section, best sorts sold at prices up to recent rates, but other lots, not so prime, were a little easier: BEEF For a small entry of 13 fat cattle the market showed no change. An attractive Hereford heifer made- £6 6s. Prices. —Two yong Jersey cows, £2 7s 6d; I black Jersey cow, £3 14s-; 1 finished Hereford heifer, £6 6s; 1 Hereford heifer, vealer, £2 Is; 1 Jersey cow, £2 10s; 1 Jersey cow, £2 145,; 2! Jersey cows, £2 3s; 1 good! red cow, £4 16s; 1 Jersey cow. £2 17s; 1 good Jersey cow. £4 lCs; 1 light Jersey cow, £1 17s 6d. F'AT SHEEP Quality finished ewes in the fat sheep section maintained recent values', but ewes not so prime were a little easier. Ewe values ranged from 21s 6d to 29s 8d : wethers, 26s to 31s Id ; lambs, 23s to 255; second-grade eMres, 18s. Wethers.—Four at 31s Id; 2. 265; 2, 265. Laihhs.— One at 235; 2, 255. 'Second-grade ewes.—l2 at 18s. STORE SHEEP' For store sheep values were definitely on the up-grade. Wether hoggets advanced by 2s to 2s 6d, while ewes with lambs made the high'figure of 37s Id- for a good pen. Several pens of hoggets sold at above 265. Ewes with, lambs realised 23s 3d for medium, 30s 9d for good, and 37s Id for extra good. Dry ewes made. 14s 9d to 15s 9d for medium, 17s 9d to 19s 2d for good and 26s 3d to 27s 7d for 4-tooth to 5-year. Prices' ; Ewes and lambs.—Twenty-four ewes, fairly good order, and 23 undocked Southdown lambs, 30s 9d; 53 good! condition ewes, and 61 big, fresh Southdown lambs, 37s Id; 22 light condition ewes and 22 undocked 1 lambs, 23s 3d. Dry ewes.—Fifty-two", 4-tooth to 5year, good skins, frame and condition, 27s 7d; 19, 4-tooth upwards, good frame and condition, 26s 3d; 19, aged, in fairly good order, 14s 9d; 9, in fairly good order, 15s 9d; 12, hr good order, 17s 9d; 6, good frame and condition, 19s 2d. Hoggets.—One hundred and nine, short wool, medium' size and condition, 21s 7d; 94 owes, short wool, medium size, in good order, 27s 6d; 289 ewes, good average size, in good order, fairly good skins,'29s 7d; 100 wethers, outstanding size and condition, 27s 3d ; ICO, short wool, good frame and condition, 26s 3d; 47, good sized skins, 26s 9d; 52 Southd'owns, with size and condition, 24s 6(1; 43 ewes, fairly good size and condition, 29s 3d; 42 ewes, short wool, fairly good size, in good order, 27s Id; 42 fairly good Southdowns, 21s 6d. DAIRY SECTION In the dairy section. l there was only a small entry. A few attractive springing heifers sold at £5 15s, £5 16s and £6 12s 6d. Empty Jersey cows in, medium condition made £1 7s, and a few in low condition, £1 Is. PIGS, A fair yarding of pigs came forward, most being in good condition. The, demand was good, and valties vVere up to those of fast week. An attractive line of woaners on account of the estate of the lato Mr. G. E. Gray sold at 16s 6d. Prices ranged as follows: —Porkers, 27s ■6d to 3Cs; weaners, ,12s to, 16s 6d; baconers to £2 10s; sow with litter, £4. BUTTER MARKET STEADY N.Z. REMAINS AT 100/QUIET TONE FOR CHEESE (Klee. Tel. Copyright—United Press Assn,) (Reed. 2 p.m.; Sept. 25. J LONDON, Sept. 24. The butter Market is steady after a Sharp decline during the early part of the. week. New Zealand and Australian prices are 5s per cwt. lower than a week ago, while Danish dropped 4s. Present quotations are: Danish, 120 s ; New Zealand and Australian, choicest salted and unsalted, 100 s. 1 Cheese is quiet. New Zealand white and coloured are fid per cwt lower than last week, white at 67s to 67s 6d, and coloured 65s to 65s 6d. FIRST GUARANTEE SHIP ARRIVAL NEXT MONTH Prices for New Zealand and Australian blitter have remained unaltered since the advice received in Gisborne on Wednesday, but Danish has dropped 3s since then. The steady tone reported in the above cable message encourages the belief that tho fall in values has been stopped, at least temporarily.
