MUSIC OF MAORIS

INVITATION TO COMPOSER OONSERVATORIUM PLAN The Rotorua Borough Council has decided to outline to Mr. Alfred Hill, the New Zealand composer, at present m Australia, the proposals for the establishment oi a conservatorium of Maori music in Rotorua as a. centennial memorial, and to invite Mr. Hill to state the terms on which he would be prepared to accept an engagement with the council until the centennial organisation is in operation. The decision was a sequel to the representations recently made by the Mayor, Mr T Jackson, to the Minister oi internal Affairs, the Hon. W. E. Parry, that the establishment of a conservatorium of Maori music for the development of native art and culture in Rotorua would provide a- lasting memorial of New Zealand’s centenary and the part, which the Maori has played in the development of the country.
