BURGLARY ADMITTED
HAMILTON PREMISES A sequel (o the burglary at the premises of J. J. Niven and Company, Limited, Hamilton, on the night of August 28, when the strongroom was forced open with explosives, was heard in the Hamilton Police Court. Eric Alfred Chapman, aged 23, pleaded guilty to charge of breaking and entering the premises and stealing £35 5s in money and a cheque for £lO. He also admitted entering the Hamilton gasworks office on August 27 with intent to commit a crime. A statement signed by accused in which be admitted both offences was submitted by Detective A. J. White. Witness said accused gave every assistance to the police. He was at present awaiting sentenco on 10 charges at Napier and two charges at Palmerston North. Accused’s connection with the offences at Hamilton and Napier was first traced through a peculiar footprint. Accused was committed to the Supreme Court at. Wellington for sentence.
