MR. JORDAN AT GENEVA STATUS OF ETHIOPIA RECOGNITION BY LEAGUE FACING REAL ISSVE (Klcc. Tel. Copyright-—United Press Assn.) ißecd. Sept. 24. 1.15 p.m.) LONDON. Sept. 23. Further reports from Geneva state that the Credentials Committee 01 the League of Nations decided that the proposal to refer the question of Abyssinia's eligibility to attend the Assembly to The Hague Court was of no practical value, because of the inevitable delay. The Associated Press says that this decision followed the course with which the New Zealand High Commissioner, Mr. \Y. .!. Jordan, was associated from the outset. It is understood that when the possibility of obtaining n verdict from The Hague Court, was first suggested, Mr. Jordan emphasised that as the Assembly would probably ' still be confronted with the fact of Abyssinian representation pending the decision, it would be better to face up to the real issue, especially since the moral effect. of so doing was likely to be tremendous. This" view, which was advanced by other members of the committee, ■finally carried the da>.
Mr. Jordan, whose unusual experience it. was to lind himself on tho occasion of his first visit to Geneva as one of a small group of statesmen on whom the eyes of" the world are fixed, played a helpful and constructive part throughout, the discussion. "I am happy to feel that New Zealand's desires, as our delegation knows them and as. we have endeavoured t(1 express throughout, are largely shared by the committee and endorsed by a majority of the assembly," said Mr. Jordan to a representative of the Associated Press.
