The first day of the calendar season of spring occurred yesterday, when the sun reached the vernal equinoctial coltirc and passed from the northern to the southern celestial hemisphere. Day and night, reckoned in apparent solar time, was of equal length yesterday, but as clocks are regulated to mean solar time the hours of day and night did not exactly coincide.
