HARBOUR STATISTICS BIGGER CARGO TONNAGE IMPORTS WELL IMPROVED Continued improvement in the position of the Gisborne Harbour Board’s revenue from cargo and ships was reported to-day by the secretarymanager, Mr. 11. A. Barton, whose statement in regard to revenue and trade returns was as under: — “The cash statements and trade returns show that during July, 5495 tons of cargo passed inward over the wharves, as compared with 33(15 tons for the same month last year, and 3751 tons went outward, compared with 2405 tons during July last ’year. The return covering 10 months to the •’ end of July shows 41,667 tons inward, against 37.992 tons for the same period last year; and 31,410 tons outward, against 32,718 tons last year. This shows an increase of 3675 tons of imports and a decrease of 1310 tons of exports. “The cash statement figures for the 10 months ended July, 1936, compared with the previous year’s figures under main headings, are as follow: “Receipts.—Ship charges, .1936, £59,31; 1935,.. £6201; wharfage, £13,559. £13,356; harbour improvement rate, £5041, £5037; rent, £4BIO, £5874; rates, £34,157, £32,493; launch hire, £436, £340; sale of plant, etc., £46, £465; sale of land and buildings, £2OO, —; miscellaneous, £.1287, £1326; totals, 1936, £65,467; 19.15, £65,092. This shows an increase of £375 in receipts. “ Expenditure, ordinary.—lnterest, sinking fund and bank charges, 1936, £58,969, 1935, £59,118; new plant, buildings, etc., £545, £88; general expenditure, £10,844. £10.504; totals, 1936, £70,358; 1935, £69,710. This shows an increase of £648 in ordinary expenditure. In addition to the above, £4290 lOs sd, to be met out of the reserve aim], was expended during the 10 nonths ended July 31, 1936.’’
