COOK COUNTY FUNCTIONS MR. AND MRS. A. G. HICKS Two farewell functions were accorded Mr. A. G. Hicks at the end of last week prior to his departure for Te Puia to take ip the position of county clerk for the <\aiapu County. The first. of the functions took place ill the office of the Cook County Council, ;or which Mr..-Hicks was assistant county clerk. Members of the office staff and the county chairman, Mr. Charles Matthews, gathered with Mr. and Mrs. Hicks at hfternoon tea on Friday. The county clerk, Mr. F. T. Robinson, presented Mr. Hicks with a leather suitjase in recognition of the firm friendship which had sprung up between Mr. Hicks and the other members of the staff and the esteem with which he was held. They regretted losing Mr. Hicks, Mr. Robinson added, but they were pleased that he was bettering himself. He wished him every success in the future. 1 Mr. Matthews said that during the long term of service Mr. Hicks had had with the Cook County he, as chairman, had always found him enei’getic and nonicientious, and though regretting losing lis valuable services, was pleased to see him rising in his profession, Mr. K. F. Jones, the county engineer, and Mr. E. A. Beer, of the Employment Department, spoke of .the ready cooperation they had received from Mr. Hicks, and endorsed the sentiments of the previous speakers. The gathering then enjoyed a dainty ifternoon tea served by Miss J. Norman. On Saturday afternoon, Mr. Hicks was net by the outside stau, who assembled hi the lounge of the Coronation Hotel.
Mr. Stevenson, on behalf of the outside staff, spoke of the service Mr. dicks had rendered to county workmen, always- being courteous, obliging and willing to assist them in any way, and they felt that they were losing a friend. At the same time they were pleased to see that lie had been appointed to a higher position, and they extended to him their heartiest congratulations and wishes for future success.
Other members also spoke and endorsed the remarks of Mr. Stevenson, who, on behalf of the outside staff, asked Mr. Hicks to accept as a parting gift and token of esteem, a handsome travelling rug. Mr. Hicks thanked the gathering for their kind thoughts and for the token ot farewell, which he deeply appreciated. He expressed his regret at his departure and spoke of his happy association with outside members of the council’s staff, assuring those present that he would carry away with him the happiest of recollections of his association with the outside staff of the Cook County Council.
