W.I. HUSBANDS’ EVENING (Herald Correspondent.) The Waerenga-a-hika School was the scene of, a jolly social and dance on Thursday night, when the members of the local Women’s Institute entertained their husbands and friends. The function was the first of its kind held by the institute and was very successful. Flag live-hundred was played by the card enthusiasts, the tables being Idled. Those at the winning table were Mr. ano Mrs. J. Sherrill’ and Mr. and Mrs. A. H. Jones, while other prize-winners were Mesdames Grant and Newman, Messrs. C. Long and A. McKay. The card games were capably controlled by members of the ladies’ committee. Music for dancing was supplied by Mr. Wreford Wade, while extras were played by Mrs. D. Smith. The- dancing ami games were controlled by Mrs. G. O’Connell, assisted by Mrs. C. Long, -i balloon relay race and a “Nosey Parker” match box game caused much amusement, each of the winners receiving a small reward. The popular Monte Carlo waltz was won by Mr. S. Taylor and Miss J. Bignell. There were two waltzing competitions. The first, for juniors, judged by Mr. J. Brown, was awarded to Miss M. Hamon, partnered by Mr. N. Cooper, while the second, for seniors, was won by Mrs. R. Cram and Mr. A. Candy, and was judged by Mr. W. Wade.
A competition for a drake donated uy Mrs. C. Long was won by Mr. B. t'ardoe, while a mystery parcel donated oy Mrs. Jones was awarded to Mrs. A. Warrington. There were several competitions Tor the men, the lirst being an ad. spotting competition, Mr. \\. Liam emerging the winner, while the second, spare parts on the farm, was awarded to Mr. McKay. A delectable bullet supper prepared by the institute members was much appreciated. During an interval Mr. G. \v ilson, on behalf oi the visitors, expressed thanks to the institute members ior their most enjoyable evening. Those present included Mesdames A. Barrow, j. B. Greig, C. Mrs. J. Killen, Khandallali, Wellington, who has been the guest of .Miss B. Mullan for a few days lias returned home. —Miss J. Sealy, wiio has been the guest of her sister, Mrs. C. O’Connel, departed yesterday for Wellington, where she will make her future home. —Master C. Scott is spending the holidays at Tokomaru Bay.—Miss L. Lister, Tolaga Bay, is spending her vacation with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. G. Lister.—Mrs. 11. Patterson, son., Gisborne, has been the guest of Mrs. R. Bovd.
Miss A. Barrow and -Miss J. Bignell, Tokomaru Bay, are staying with Mrs. A. Barrow for the term holidays.— Miss B. Warrington, Opotiki, is staying with her mother, Mrs. A. Warrington, for the school holidays.—Misses Treve Candy and Thelma Sim, Mangapapa, are spending a short holiday with Mrs. E. Candy.—Mr. and Mrs. B. Mullan and Miss B. Mullan were visitors to Motu for the Twistleton-Lewis wedding.
