AMERICAN AMBASSADOR
CHANGE LN FRENCH POST MR, STRAUS RESIGNS (Eloc. Tel. Copyright—United Press Aasn.) WASHINGTON; Aug. 25. In one of- the most important diplomatic changes of his administration, President Roosevelt to-day accepted the resignation of Mr. Jesse Isidor Straus, Ambassador to France, and immediately appointed Mr. William Bullitt to succeed him. Mr. Straus resigned because of acute ill-health, which he has suffered for many months. Mr. Roosevelt had the highest faith in him. Mr. Bullitt, was appointed Ambassador to Russia after the United States recognition was extended to the Soviet Union. He was then an ardent champion of recognition, but recently appeared to find the post distasteful, lie spent much time in Washington.
There is no indication as to who is to be Mr. Bullitt's successor at Moscow.
