“NO LACK OF RESPECT” MR LYONS’ EXPLANATION CANBERRA, May 33. The Prime Minister, Mr. Lyons,, said in the House of Representatives tq-flily that the former Governor-General, 1 Isaac Isaacs, had always receive!.) greatest respect from the present Government. 5 •/.
Mr. Makin (Lab., S.A.) asked whether the Government had any explanation for the absence of the Federal Attorney-General, Mr. Menzies, and the Minister for Commerce, Dr. Page, when Sir Isaac Isaacs arrived in London, and whether their absence would be likely to suggest discourtesy and lack of respect. Mr. Lyons replied that the absence of the Ministers on Sir Isaac Isaacs’ arrival would not indicate any lack of respect on the part of the Government. He had received the greatest respect from the Government in his position as Governor-General. The Government had made the necessary arrangements by which Sir Isaac Isaacs found it possible to visit London to pay his respects to the King. Everything possible had boon done by the Government to pay tho fullest respect to a man in whom it had tno utmost confidence.
