RACING AT RANDWICK
CUDDLE'S FINE VICTORY GOLD ROD UNLUCKY (Reed. April 16, noon.) SYDNEY, April 16. The Sydney Morning Herald says that Gold Rod's display at Randwick yesterday may be dismissed as an unfortunate blot on his record, brought about by mischance. In addition to slipping at the barrier, Gold Rod was struck in the. eye by a clod of earth, apparently with great force, for there was a swelling afterwards.
McCarten, discussing Cuddle's win, said: "In my 13 years in Australia, I have never ridden a better mare than Cuddle, who is not likely to race here again this autumn." She has won £3975 in stakes in Australia. She is booked to leave by the Monowai on April 24.
