HIT BY STARTING CAR
MAN HURT SERIOUSLY USE OF CRANK HANDLE (Per Press Association.) AUCKLAND, this day. Knocked down and injured in the head when he cranked a heavy model motor-car while in gear on Aitken road in the city last evening, Basil Montgomery of Mission Bay, an engineer employed by the Public Works Department, was taken to the Auckland Hospital. His condition to-day was very serious.' The engine started .before Mr. Montgomery was able to jump clear of the crank handle. It is not known whether the wheels passed over his body, but Mr. Montgomery was found some distance back from where the car came to rest after jumping a kerb and crashing into a stout briek wall.
Eesidents who heard the crash found the engine still running. There was no sign of the driver, and it was not immediately realised that he was lying injured along the road.
