KEEN ELECTION
P.B. TURF CLUB NEW COMMITTEE M RAIBERS ME, TOLERTON ['RESIDENT Consequent upon the resignation en bloc of officers of the Poverty Bay Turf Club, after the recent decision by a majority of club members in favour ol racing at the Park Domain in future, a special general meeting of the club was held yesterday for the election of a new committee and executive officers. Mr. F. Tolerton., formerly a member of the committee, was elected, president, and Mr. F. C. Loisel, also one of (lie club's committee prior to the resignation, became vice-president. Several members of the old committee agreed to accept nomination again, and were re-elected, but four new committee members were selected in the ballot. As indicating the keenness with which members regarded the matter, no fewer than 17 nominations were received for the nine seats available on the committee. Many of those present held proxies which they exercised in the ballot, and the counting of votes was thus prolonged considerably. The secretary, Mr. H. E. Dodd, opened the meeting by calling for the appointment of a chairman. Mr. W. 0. Sherratt being elected without opposition. Mr. Sherratt. was one of two nominees for the president's post, the other being! Mr. F. Tolerton. The poll favoured Mr. Tolerton. who assumed the chair amidst acclamation.
In his first speech as president of the club, Mr. Tolerton staled that his object in accepting nomination was to help the club ami to help the sport of racing. fie much appreciated the honour done him in the election. It would, he held, nave been a gireat mistake to let tin- sport die out for lack- of initiative on the part of the club.
For the post of vice-president. Messrs. I). .). Harry, W. (!. Sherratt and G. M. Reynolds were invited to accept nomination, but each refused. Mr. V. C. Loisel was elected unopposed to this post, on the nomination of Mr. W. Wilson, seconded by Mr. A. G. Tumbull. Nominations for the nine seats on the committee comprised Messrs. D. .1. Dairy. .J. A. McLeo'd, 11. H. Dods, G. D. Jobson, A. (1. Turnbull, S. Kirkpatrick, P. liltar. H. Moore, V. C. R. Mitford. .]. W. Oman, G. 15. Oman, 11. F. Bright, W. D. Morley, 11. 11. Smith. Titos. Fraser. Harold Maude, and W. G. Sherratt. The ballot returned Messrs. Turnbull. Parry. Plight, McLeod. Jobsou. G. 15. Oman. W. G. Sherratt, Thos. Fraser. and 11. Maude as the new committee.
The president urged all who had the interests of the sport at, heart not to hesitate to place suggestions before the executive officers. If the sport was to be saved in this district, and brought hack to its former standard, which lie hoped would materialise, it was necessary that all should pull together.
