The Daily Telegraph's correspondent at Canberra says that L7.1C0.C00 is to be spent on Australian defence plans between now and the end of December. Details of the revised programme are disclosed by the preliminary estimates now before the Cabinet. Features of the new plan include the purchase of 33 reconnaissance planes ul a cost of £1.067X00 and - a secret programme of naval construction aimed at defence against destroyer raids. Further gun emplacements will be i mstrueted at Sydney Heads. Rottnest Island. Fremautle will be fortified. ;. id the proposed Australian aircraft factory will be developed under private enterprise to the self-sufficient stage.
