The auxiliary ketch, Kaiaia, which said; off Castle Rock in the early hours of yesterday morning, was formerly well known in (Hsborno waters, having, been used extensively by Mr. P. Goodman in the course of the construction of the Tolaga, Bay wharf. Mr. Goodman acquired the craft, from Messrs. A. S. Patterson and Company, in whose service she had been carrying benzine from Auckland to various parts of the Ehst Coast. A short time before Mr. Goodman purchased the vessel she was extensively damaged as tin* result of a benzine explosion. After the completion of the Tolaga Bay wharf Mr. Goodman look a quantity of gear down to Dunedin in the Kaiaia, and the, voyage on account, of the cramped quarters and stormy weather was a most unenviable one. On the vessel's return to the North Island Mr. Goodman disposed of her to the Aspden Shipping Company. The dimensions of the Kaiaia were Csft. length and 18:4ft beam.
